The balloon driver is invoked when the server is under heavy memory stress. a swap value of 95% would indicate this is the case and therefore the ballon value should not be 0%. The fact its at 0% indicates that the driver which is installed by VMware tools is not installed. so the answer is correct.

Is it just me or is anyone else thinking that there are several wrong questions in this dump? For example:
A virtual machine graph shows the swap value to be at 95% and the balloon value to be at 0%.
Correct answer reading dump: Migrate vm to another datastore
False answer: Install VMware tools
Well I see no connection between datastore and swapping memory but"A memory balloon driver (vmmemctl), loaded into the guest operating system running in a virtual machine, part of the VMware Tools package"
Is anyone with me on that?

I recently passed as well. The good news is that the Martinez and 545 guides are sufficient to pass (I prefer the It's Me version since it breaks it up into smaller exams)- IF you know them very, very well. Others are correct, you cannot simply memorize the question and answer. Plenty of questions were worded the same, and plenty were not. There were many tricks.. new potential answers, reverse of some questions on the guides, different answer order, different working for the question and answers, etc. There are enough differences in my opinion to make you fail if you don't know the material well.
These guides are great for focusing on what to expect- my strong suggestion would be to review the question, and then go refer to VMware documentation to get the correct answer (some of the guide answers are wrong). That way you don't get sucked in to memorizing the guide's answer.
For reference, I had ZERO max config questions (I wasted sooo much time memorizing these) and only 2-3 questions that I had definitely never seen before. Looking back at these 2 guides, a good amount of questions came from both, so study both hard and you will pass.
Thanks to Martinez and the others who posted these guides!

The licenses are maintained at vcenter level but can also be assigned individually to ESX or ESXi host in 4.x

Both the VC database and the Host have a copy of the license. Something you didn't think about is that When you install ESX/i on the host (without a VC) you are prompted to either enter your license key or use the evaluation option..
Therefore C and D are both correct

@ s90099a - Answer C is correct for sure. The question states, choose 2 answers. So the next most closest answer is D. However lemme share some light ..
Given real life situations, organizations usually setup ESX first and create/test all the VMs. vCenter is an additional module which they might choose if they want to use all the distributed service features like vMotion, FT, etc.
What we need to also note is, ESX license is based on vSphere license key and vCenter license is a separate license key. Assuming your organization takes the 'Lets start with ESX host and then buy vCenter if everything goes well approach', then the license key for the host resides on the host. And when you decide to buy and install vCenter, the vCenter license key entered during installation process is stored in the vCenter DB. If you then decide to change the host from being a standalone to a managed host, you will add the host to the vCenter Server. During this process, you will have an option to specify your vSphere key again. So you may re-enter the key that you used on the host earlier when it was set up. Once the process is completed, the license gets pushed down to the ESX/ESXi host. So if vCenter were to go down the hosts will still continue to function indefinitely. vCenter is just used to administer and manage the licenses not to be the repository.
Based on this understanding, I will choose C and D as the answer. Cheers :)

Rene - but we can have vCenter 4.x installed with license input without having an ESX host. So answer D should in incorrect. The question is, where does this license for vCenter 4.x maintained? We do not use license file nor license server for vCenter 4.x too, so A and B should be incorrect too. Please let me know if I am wrong?
Anyone other than Rene can comment too. thanks.

When installing vCenter 4.x, where are licenses maintained? (Choose two)
A. In a license file on the vCenter Server machine
B. Within the License Server
C. In the vCenter Server Database
D. On the ESX Host
Martinez dump mentioned C and D are the answers. But i dont think D is correct. Anyone has the correct answers can comment on this?

B. Ina virtual disk placed in a VMFS datastore on a SAN disk maked only to the ESX host
C. In a virtual disk placed in a VMFS datastore on local storage

You need to understand VMware concepts before you can pass. Yes the dumps will help but please read other VMware installation and configuration guide pdf available on their website.
Also make sure you go through all the questions on the 2 VCEs i provided on the link below. Understand why the answers are right and you will pass with flying colours.
Good luck

I failed with 284 this morning in Italy :(
This test is VERY HARD and very few questions came up from this dump (I'm also not sure all of the questions are 100% correct in any of these dumps because there are too many conflicting answers).
My question is are there ANY dumps with real questions and correct answers out there?

Any updates from the experts out there for below Question from RSTi..
I am still confused with answers for below Qs. Can anybody of u volunteer who has test env to check the correct answer for below and let everybody know #
A user has permissions to create and manage alarms and tasks for a group of virtual machines. An
administrator modifies permissions for the user so that they no longer create alarms. Once this change is
made:
A. The user can no longer create alarms and cannot modify or delete any existing alarms
B. The user can no longer create alarms and cannot delete any existing alarms
C. The user can no longer create alarms, but can modify or delete their existing alarms
D. The alarms option is greyed out in the vSphere Client and no alarm related actions may be taken by
the user
Answer: D (In Chankya 151Q orginal and corrected by martinez)
Answer: C (Actualtest by RST 559Q)
Answer: A (In Chanakya 570 Q dumps)
Lots of variant answers in various dumps... Somebody need to check the correct answer for this on test env.. please.

@Teepee, you can take the exam without taking the mandatory VMware class but you won't be considered certified UNTIL you have passed BOTH the exam AND the mandatory VMware class.
To make the class cheaper, see if you have a local community college that is part of the VMware Academic Alliance. It will take more time to complete but I've seen it as cheap as $500 for the course (but takes a few months to complete).

@RSTi, yes in response to your question (D being the right answer).
@orkhaan that doesn't make any sense to me. High bandwidth usage would just show that the pipes are being utilized. I wouldn't use it as a reliable indicator of disk I/O being constrained. For perspective a large number of small reads/writes by multiple VMs can seriously hamper disk I/O without peaking overall bandwidth.
